Get a new lens by all means, but keep hold of that one! The 50mm is a great little lens with awesome depth of field! And if you're going to get a new camera I suggest sticking with a Nikon, if you've got the money, like someone below suggested, the D700 is an amazing camera! Or, if you're rich, why not go for the D800 or D4?! xD
